22 year old Mukesh Negi from Rishikesh is a self taught painter. One who despite certain restraints has made a mark with his unique style of putting paint to canvass. Belonging to a humble family, Mukesh’s father is a taxi driver, mother a homemaker and a younger brother who just cleared with 12th. With little or no financial help from home, Mukesh was never encouraged to pursue his talent, but that hasn’t stopped this talented painter.
At present, Mukesh has lent colour to canvasses which include shoes, T-Shirts and of course, paper too. His forte, as he puts it has always been charcoal portraits and sketches on A3 paper. Talking to team Newspost, the young artist tells us, “I started by painting shoes for my friends which became an instant hit and I have been doing shoes and t-shirts for my friends ever since.”
After completing his schooling from Rishikesh, the young lad moved to Dehradun to complete his B.Com, and continued dedicating an hour or two to polish his art. He adds with conviction, “No matter what I do in the future, I will make sure that I give a few hours to painting.”
Adding, “I dont paint in any particular style, I try every style be it charcoal, poster, acrylic, pen, tattoo, ink, you name it and I have tried my hand at it.” Lack of family encouragement and financial restriction meant the lack of a proper Arts degree from a fine-arts college, as he glumly tell us, “I am constantly reminded how I cant earn a living by painting and how its a waste of time, but this is my true-calling and I enjoy working with my paints and brush.”
But not the one to call it quits! Mukesh is busy adding acrylic colours to his 24″x20″ canvass of Badrinath Temple, as well as making prints of his painting and sketches so that he can put them up on his Instagram page for those who are eager to buy his work. An attempt to add some money to his kitty as he saves up for admission into a Fine Art College, somewhere in the country.
