Chirbatiya Monsoon Hill 1/2 Marathon an instant hit

Rudraprayag, For the first time ever, a unique initiative is being undertaken by the State Government to promote off-beat destinations in the hills of Uttarakhand. Recently, under the same initiative, Chirbatiya at an altitude of 2250 meters, a scenic locale in Rudraprayag District has been selected amongst thirteen other new destinations.

Making the most of the prolonged monsoon in the hills, under the banner of PAHAL Himalayas a theme  ‘Run for Hills’ is being put together by the village folks. Entitled ‘Chirbatiya Monsoon Hill 1/2 Marathon,’ the day-event is also a tribute to Major Dhyan Chand on National Sports Day which is tomorrow.

21.1 kms, 15 kms, 5 kms and a special run of 3 kms for the women folk, is the highlight of the Run. The Track is set midst pristine nature which no wonder has attracted close to 650 registered participants already. Icing on the cake for many is also that the first ten runners of the Marathon will also get an opportunity to run the Delhi Half Marathon.

Speaking to Newspost, District Magistrate Mangesh Ghildiyal points out,  “This is a Marathon which will serve a dual purpose, not only will it give a platform for youth to realise their potential to pursue sports as a career but also put Chirbatiya on the tourism map of the hill-state.

The main highlight of the one day event is for the first time, women folk from surrounding area will leaving behind their mundane chores and run a 3 kms race. Along with the opportunity of being surrounded by natural beauty,  home-stay and lip smacking local cuisine is also serving as a special attraction to those who have registered.

Minute-to-win-it games along with a Tug of war especially for women folk from surrounding villages has every one on tenter-hooks as they practise to win.
