A day-long seminar at the Himalayan School of Yoga Science

Dateline Dehradun: The Himalayan School of Yoga Sciences, Jollygrant, in collaboration with the Indian Philosophical Research Council, organized a one-day national seminar.

In this seminar, students were provided information about various dimensions of Yoga.

The seminar was inaugurated after obeisance was paid in front of the portrait of Dr. Swami Rama. Addressing the seminar, Professor Ganesh Shankar Giri, provided students with information about the various dimensions of Yoga. He said that Yoga is an ancient subject. Its description can be found in various scriptures like Vedas, Upanishads, Puranas, Mahabharata, and Bhagavad Gita, as well as in different philosophies like Jainism, Buddhism, Mimamsa, etc. Sage Patanjali has defined Yoga as ‘Yogaḥ Cittavṛtti Nirodhaḥ,’ which includes practices like Karma Yoga, Ashtanga Yoga, and Abhyasa-Vairagya to control the mind, its modifications, and to overcome the five afflictions, including ignorance. The field of study in Yoga is vast, profound, serious, and useful.

Professor Omana Ray of Gurukul Kangri Vishwavidyalay said that Yoga is an extremely profound and serious subject, as it offers ways to overcome all human sufferings. Yoga also serves the purpose of life and adopting its practices in life can awaken various capabilities of an individual, even if the ultimate goal is not achieved.

Professor Kanchan Joshi, of Sri Guru Ram Rai Vishwavidyalaya, added that through various studies and research in Yoga, it is known that practices like asanas, pranayama, mudra, and bandhas enhance the agility of our physical activities. It results in the healthy development of the body, making it strong and energetic. Therefore, research in Yoga holds immense importance.

Dr. Ajay Dubey, Dr. Soma Lata Jha, Dr. Ram Narayan Mishra, Dr. Ankit Sharma, Virendra Dwivedi, Neelam Rawat, and others were present on this occasion.
