At the age of fifty-nine, there is no stopping Waterman of India Rajendra Singh. A Rajasthani by birth, Rajendra Singh has been working relentlessly in the field of reviving and rejuvenating over a dozen rivers from the brink of extinction.

On 2nd October 2018, Rajendra Singh set off from Gaumukh, the source of the holy river, in Uttarkashi District for Ganga Sagar, with an interesting medley of twenty-one leading scientists, environmentalists, teachers and social workers from across India with one mission in mind.

Divided into five groups these motivational like-minded intellects will apprise those whom they meet along the way about the need to conserve Ganga’s eternal flow or aviral dhaara in order to save the sacred river from disappearing.

Talking to us, enroute to Dehradun from Rishikesh, Rajendra ji tells us, “Even today, we call Ganga ‘Ma,’ our Mother is unwell and critical and she needs us to stand up for her and give her the best treatment in the shortest period. It is our National River and demands National protection for which we have undertaken this task.”

Rajendra Singh has always reiterated the fact that the condition of India’s holiest river has always been critical and it would be next to impossible to clean the river by what is the Union Ministry’s 2019 deadline. “We need to restore Ganga’s ecological flow in order to restore its miraculous healing properties, which is and should be our priority,” added a defiant Singh.

This dedicated team will end their awareness campaign at Ganga Sagar after completing 2500 kms over the next four months, on 14th of January 2019.

Watching Singh’s track record, one is but confident, that his latest campaign will ensure that Ganga’s eternal flow is uninterrupted and pure as it were, in the past.
